Dreams and the Inner Child:

As we move through our year of the transformational power of chaos we begin to become more aware of the inner child, or should I say inner children that live inside of us. These children, in many cases have been "running the show" for a very long time. Our relationship to them has sometimes been to ignore them as pesky creatures who cause disorder and trouble. Or we go in the entire opposite direction and put them up on pedestals as some kind of false idols. Even if we have done lots of inner child work, it is always necessay to pay close attention to these parts of ourselves that in my mind direct us to real self-love and acceptance. As these inner children are revealed in our dreams we can learn to look at them with soft and realistic eyes. We can welcome them to our table with love, understanding and compassion. In many cases, they have carried very difficult and uncomfortable feelings and emotions for us – ones that we don’t want to suffer. And yet, through these realizations and acts of loving kindness towards them as real parts of ourselves, we can walk tall and engage with each other with truth and love.

Jeremy Taylor has worked with dreams for more than 30 years, integrating the values of spirituality with an active social conscience and a Jungian perspective. He is an ordained Unitarian-Universalist minister, is a founding member and past president of the Association for the Study of Dreams, and has written three books merging dream symbolism, mythology, and archetypal energy: Dream Work; Where People Fly & Water Runs Up Hill; and, his most recent, Living Labyrinth:Universal Themes in Myths, Dreams, and the Symbolism of Waking Life. Dr. Taylor currently directs the Marin Institute for Projective Dream Work. He has a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from the University of Creation Spirituality and an honorary Doctor of Sacred Theology (STD) from Starr King School for the Ministry.
